Empowering Young Women for a Brighter Future

At the CREDO Foundation for Justice, we are immensely proud of Sophia House, our sanctuary for young girls at risk, located at 2-4 Park Street in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Since opening its doors in 2004, Sophia House has been a vital part of our mission, providing a safe and nurturing environment for socially displaced and vulnerable girls. These young residents, typically between the ages of 10 and 18, have often faced challenging circumstances, including abuse or homelessness, making Sophia House an essential haven where they can heal and grow.

Our commitment at Sophia House goes far beyond simply providing shelter. We are dedicated to the holistic development of each girl, offering comprehensive programs designed to equip them with the personal, social, and educational skills necessary for a successful future. Through counseling, developmental activities, and remedial programs, we strive to prepare our residents for independent living and responsible adulthood, empowering them to reintegrate confidently into society. We are particularly grateful for initiatives like the Rising Stars (formerly IGT) After School Advantage (ASA) programme, which has provided Sophia House with a fully functional computer lab, enabling the girls to access crucial online learning resources and bridge the digital divide.

Sophia House stands as a testament to the CREDO Foundation for Justice’s unwavering dedication to addressing social injustices and supporting the most vulnerable in Trinidad and Tobago. As a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1996, and with strong ties to the Holy Faith Sisters, we identify and respond to the pressing needs of marginalized individuals. Alongside our residential development center for boys, Sophia House embodies the Holy Faith Sisters’ enduring legacy of social justice and their long-standing presence in Trinidad, extending their profound impact from education into vital social services that truly transform lives and build a more just society.
