our programs

We also run drop-in programmes offering:

  • A safe place with educational, developmental and recreational activities for the youth and children of this notoriously dangerous area in East Port of Spain, as an antidote to the perceived need to join the culture of gangs, crime, drugs and violence.
  • Programmes to empower parents and guardians to help them create a more nurturing, developmental family and community environment.
Parent Support Club

A subset of the Outreach Programme is our ‘Parent Support Club’ which seeks to target all persons from “hot-spot” areas, where crime rates are high and the population considered “at-risk”. Areas include Beetham, Laventille, Morvant, East Port of Spain and other fringe constituencies.

CREDO Foundation for Justice ‘Parent Support Club’ was established to expose participants to self-development courses, parenting skills, literacy and employment training

We propose to continue our self-development programmes using ‘‘The Start, Run & Grow Your Business Training Course’ to equip the participants with entrepreneurial skills/financial literacy to create self-employment.  To successfully complete this project, participants will also partake in a five (5) Saturday ‘Restorative Justice’ Circle.  This circle provides an opportunity for participants to express themselves and voice their challenges and successes, also engage with members of the Club in various social activities geared towards adult and family socialization.

1. Life Skills (students 5-16+)

Life Skills are the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable humans to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life. Therefore, one of CREDO’s mandates are to develop the community one child at a time. Parents are also encouraged to participate in projects/programmes accordingly.

Life Coaching allows the individual to realize and manifest their life plan i.e. their main life goal. When determining your goals, you draw up a table of actions. By doing this, they and their dreams will meet soon in the future.

  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Structured Human Relations Training
  • Life Coaching
  • Life Skills Parent Training
  • Encouragement and support

CREDO feels connected to other people when we sense that they see us and know us, that’s what out ‘Restorative Circle’ is about.

The objectives for these circles are that adults will feel:

  • They have been seen
  • They have been heard
  • They have been understood
  • They feel connected to one another
  • They have given and received respect and perhaps affection from fellow circle mates

CREDO believes in holistic development hence the physical aspect has been in-cooperated in our programme.

 Benefits

  • Self Defence
  • Spiritual and physical health
  • Self-Discipline and Behaviour Modification
  • Tournaments/Demos and Competitions

CREDO is of the opinion that impact cannot be achieved if we don’t address the family unit as a whole. Parents are mandated to participate in all developmental projects being delivered by the organisation.  (Small Business Management/Floral Arrangement/Balloon Decoration etc.) These small projects afford the parents the opportunity to become self-sufficient and self-reliant in an effort to help sustain their families.

This club was founded in Feb 2107 by the parents of our students with the aim of getting the parents and members of the wider community to socialise in a positive way. They were also given the task of planning social events for club members as well as one-off fundraising efforts and family outings (parents and children).

One of CREDO’s core values is education, both child and adult education.  Education is the key out of a life of poverty and the turning point in everyone’s life.  Although education in Trinidad and Tobago is free, a lot of children and adults go through the system without attaining clear understanding and academic success.  At CREDO our aim is to make a measurable educational impact on the lives of the persons who attend programmes at our Centre.

We operate a home work centre daily to assist students with their homework completion      and reinforcement of topics taught in school.  Developing literacy and numeracy skills form the basis for sound educational development.  It has been observed that most students develop their numeracy skills easier than their literacy skills.  Therefore, literacy classes are also conducted for students who are not excelling academically.  Adults are also assisted in their literacy skills at our Centre.

After this project is implemented with consistent intensity in conjunction with committed participation, over a period of three (3) months, participants are expected to attain higher levels of reading and numeracy skills. Students will be encouraged to write the ‘School Leaving’ and ‘CXC’ exams respectively.

CREDO has been partnering with LWC in the capacity of space assistance. From Mon-Fri CREDO facilitates the LWC migrant programme 9am-2pm. The students age ranges from 6-17 (boys and girls).
